Location: Kirkland Performance Center, 350 Kirkland Ave, Kirkland WA 98033

Sunday March 15, 2015 - 2:00

Duration: 2 hours

Description: Revel in an afternoon with Master Chorus Eastside as they present smooth, jazzy, romantic, unforgettable tunes by top craftsmen of the  20s through the  50s in The Great American Songbook.  Tap your toes to Harold Arlen s That Old Black Magic and Get Happy and Duke Ellington s Satin Doll and It Don t Mean a Thing, bask in the glow of the Gershwin brother s Love Walked In and Love is Here to Stay, and embrace the sentimental with As Time Goes By and Singin  in the Rain.  Guest artist Mary Jo DuGaw adds her own special voice in solo renditions of classic numbers of the period, and in combination with the Chorus.   These numbers have become a part of America s art song tradition,  says conductor Dr. Linda Gingrich.   The poetry is sophisticated, the music is top quality, and they work together to tell a romantic story just as surely as European art songs do.  They are wonderful expressions of our culture.

Tickets are $15-20.  For tickets call 425-893-9900 or visit kpcenter.org

Sunday May 18, 2014 - 3:00 PM

Title: Masterworks: Vivaldi's Gloria

Location: Bellevue Presbyterian Church

March 16, 2014 3:00 PM

Duration: 2 hrs

Description: Combine the warm resonance of Master Chorus Eastside, the mighty tones of Bellevue Presbyterian Church s great organ and the soaring sounds of a string ensemble, then unite them in some of the most delightful masterworks of the ages for an unforgettable concert experience.  MCE will explore the miniature masterworks of Mozart, Haydn, Schütz, Bach and Fauré, culminating in Vivaldi s vibrant Gloria in D major, among the most beloved works of all time.   One of the things that makes this Gloria so interesting is that Vivaldi wrote it for young women in an Italian charitable institution that was famous all over Europe for the quality of their music making,  says artistic director Dr. Linda Gingrich.   And yet the piece was written for an SATB choir!  It s a bit of a mystery.   The concert includes the keyboard wizardry of MCE accompanist Cori Belle, the  vocal artistry of soprano Mary Jo Dugaw and Kathryn Weld, and, as always, conductor Linda Gingrich s lively, entertaining concert commentary, which will reveal some possible answers behind the vocal mystery of the Gloria.
